Bio

Originally from Los Angeles, Terin has been living in Japan since 2012. During his years as a graduate student majoring in world history, he worked at several major museums before graduating with a master’s degree with distinction. After two years as an English teacher with the JET Programme in Shiga Prefecture, he moved to Kyoto and began a career in tourism.

In 2014 Terin established KyoTours Japan and grew this business into one of the premiere sources for private tours for foreign guests in Kyoto. Spending years immersed in Kyoto culture and engaging with travelers on a daily basis has granted him unique insight into the past and present of the ancient capital.

Terin resides in Kyoto and works in destination development and travel marketing for one of Asia’s largest inbound operators.

He also contributes as a freelance writer to international publications on the topics of Japanese culture and travel. His writing can be found in print and online publications including Dwell Magazine, Tokyo Weekender, Eighty Degrees, Kyoto Journal, ANA in-flight magazines, and various government-sponsored tourism marketing campaigns.
